36 inch Refractor Telescope and James Lick's Headstone. A refractor telescope uses a huge lens to collect and focus light to the eyepiece.

The large dome is the 120 inch Reflecting Telescope, and other sciencey stuff across the road.

Crossing the road to see the rest of the facility is dangerous for more reasons than just the motorcycles that love that winding road. 

The 120 in reflecting telescope uses a large mirror to collect the starlight and then focus it to where it can be viewed.
