There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. At an Ansel Adams exhibit I thought it was so remarkable the way he could take the exact same image and through various darkroom techniques create different impressions or bring out different emotions. He said "You don't take a photograph, you make it."
What used to take hours in the darkroom, burning and dodging, manipulating the light and shadow, is now just moment at the keyboard with PhotoShop.
